"The Origins of Vodafone"

Vodafone was officially launched January 1st, 1985. By the mid 1990s mobile telephony was an industry in explosive growth, and Vodafone was at the forefront. Its corporate environment at that time was one of indoctrination, fear, and obedience, comparable to a religious cult  - which most certainly worked in the sense of growth success.
The publication "The Origins of Vodafone" reviews this environment, the players, and subsequent developments.

Original evidence

The original publication was written as a personal account of Vodafone in the mid 1990s, centering on the events before and after the imprisonment of the head of one of its key divisions.  Shortly before imprisonment (guess what for), this person had stood in the middle of a busy office loudly declaring that "women were no trouble if you hit them" He had been continuously protected and promoted during his activities of destroying many good peoples careers, but in an environment of indoctrination and fear this was quite natural.

Key Players in the events

Mr Chris Gent, the CEO of Vodafone in the 1990s.
His role in our report is restricted to the culture in Vodafone at that time, the events leading up to the imprisonment of the 'head' of one of it's major departments, and Mr. Gent's unfortunate part in the subsequent cover-up. Apart from the head of a central department who was sentenced to two years imprisonment, other key players include Mrs. Pauline Best whose title was  "Global People Development Director", Paul Wybrow who lied, deceived, destroyed many professional peoples' careers and was naturally promoted to high office.

From small beginnings to worldwide ascendency.

In the early 1990s Vodafone had many small offices spread throughout the market town of Newbury, Today its headquarters are an impressive  corporate monument on the outskirts of the town, an event which could not have been remotely envisaged in the early days of explosive growth.
